Dimebolin hydrochloride is the active pharmaceutical ingredient in the brand name drug Dimebon. Dimebolin hydrochloride was readily available in Russia as an antihistamine drug until just a few years ago. Dimebolin hydrochloride was sold under the brand name Dimebon in Russia.

Dimebolin hydrochloride has shown remarkable results in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease in clinical trials. Dimebolin hydrochloride is also being tested for the treatment of Huntington’s disease in Phase 2 clinical trials.

Dimebolin hydrochloride is safe and well tolerated. Dimebolin hydrochloride is an orally-available, small-molecule agent.

Dimebolin hydrochloride operates via a novel mechanism of action and may exert a neuroprotective effect in multiple areas of the central nervous system. Dimebolin appears to block a new target that involves mitochondrial pores, which are believed to play a role in the cell death that is associated with neurodegenerative diseases and the aging process. Dimebolin also blocks both cholinesterase and the NMDA receptor simultaneously.
