Dimebon Drug

Dimebon drug trials are currently under way. These phase III clinical trials are being performed to prove that the drug Dimebon works in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and that the Dimebon drug itself is safe.

Showing that Dimebon is safe should not be an issue during Dimebon drug trials. The drug was used in Russia as an over the counter antihistamine since 1983. Dimebon has an excellent safety record as an OTC drug.

The Dimebon drug name (i.e. the name of the active ingredient) is dimebolin hydrochloride.

Dimebon drug trials should be completed in 2009. The Dimebon drug application to the FDA will most likely take place in 2010.

It will not be until Dimebon is seen on the market that a clear list of Dimebon drug interactions will be established. Types of potential Dimebon drug interactions may be hypothesized based on the chemistry of the drug and its affect on liver enzymes, etc. However, it can be expected that the list of Dimebon drug interactions will be small as the drug was readily available in Russia as an over-the-counter product. Usually drugs with significant drug interactions do not make it to the OTC status.
